Can anyone recommend (you might have to PM me) agencies and or / websites for H&S roles? I am an experienced SGE Manager (CMIOSH) looking for part time or similar work. The trouble is, all of the agencies in SHP etc seem to be chasing the same roles.............and give lots of promises and little else!

Try and find one that can use a map !!!

Just looked at a job in South Wales, but when you read the description it is in Kent !!!

Must be using the same map and distance calculator as the new gov web site uses.

I'm starting to think there should be genetic testing at birth to screen out anyone who may be liable to end up working in an agency.

Pikeman, sorry for the rant but to answer you question - No, I have not found a good one.

Think I may go stand outside in the snow and cool down a bit.

According to the regular feature in SHP "diary of a recuitment consultant" there is a massive upturn in jobs.
Mind you, I've always read that column as a work of fiction.

Sorry for the slight hi jack, pike'. (hope you see what I did there ;-))

I think there is a slight upturn at the moment. I wondered if this is company's preparing for new financial years starting in April and have started to gear up ready to spend the new years budget.

Do a general Internet search and then trawl through each agency in turn. Yes you will see the same jobs repeated over and over again, but will give you an idea who the main players are.

Back last year I applied for a H&S role via an agency and got the distinct impression that I was not considered because I did. The job went to someone that applied direct! So no agency costs.

I have found that even though the same job is repeated via several agencies, they sometimes have slightly different information in them (especially location).

All the best, again sorry to rant and hi jack.

I have been mainly freelance for the past 9 years. I have obtained approximately 66% of my work via agencies.

There was one exceptionally good one but in recent years, it has been taken over by a large group and quite frankly their service has deteriorated siginificantly! Conversely there is another large agency covering a wide range of disciplines and I have nothing but praise for the service they provide for H&S professionals. There are also agencies that tend to ring up full of huge promises, having obtained my details from a search engine, and consistently fail to deliver. (I could name one agency that has done this on numerous occasions.)

My advice is to find an agency where you can build up good rapour with the consultant(s) and let that agency provide the majority of your assignments. I would not recommend a particular agency, the one that suits me might not suit others and vice versa.
