Further to our recent snow event I am now pressed with the above question. Working in Community Health our service requires our District Nurses, Health Visitors and others to get to their patients whatever the weather. Unfortunately we sustained a number of falls during this period with resulting fractures to two members of staff. Aside from the common sense approach and guidance for staff to wear sensible footwear this still occured. For those working in a similar organisation what is the line for this because if we provide snow tracks for one we need to provide for all - so on we go with cost ...........?

Take a look at the go outdoors web site. We (herself and I) have crampons but then we're off into the hills snow or whatever. (and no, craampons is not a tummy dissorder) but you can get smaller gear for everyday use and not a lot of money

I have a pair of these, they're brilliant: http://www.yaktrax.co.ukIsn't it going to be cheaper to provide them than to pay all the costs associated with people injuring themselves after slipping?

Was talking to my post man last year I think while cleaning the snow off my path. He had a pair of these "grips" over his shoes said it was the best thing the post office had ever issued him with. Would be interesting to know what the reduction in slips and trips injuries there issue had resulted in.

I bought my elderly neighbour some YakTrax or Christmas. She thought they were great in the weather we have just had.
Not really PPE but I do think they are worthwhile. Though obviously an expense that few companies will see as cost effective unless in an area where there is more snow and ice ona regular basis.
