I am interested in becoming involved with sports ground or matchday safety. Does anyone have any connections or experience of this kind of activity that they are willing to share? I have read the Green Guide to Safety at Sports Grounds, but would like some practical experience. I know that some clubs will take on volunteers as stewards. I would be interested in your views or suggestions.

My experience is limited to match days at a large Premier League football club, but the issues we face are similar to other clubs, but on a larger scale. If you want some first-hand experience, then why not contact your local football team & ask when they are next recruiting? Our Stewards are paid casual employees of the Club, not volunteers, but are expected to undergo a number of various training modules if they wish to maintain their employment.
