Hi, I am just about to start on a Health and Safety Internship. The company are involved asset management/maintenance for manufacturing. I will be visiting sites where our workers are located in order to identify Health and Safety Training Gaps. I have never done anything like this before, but am interested in Training and will be undertaking a Training and Development course shortly. I would appreciate any hints/tips/resources that members can advise on.

Thanks to all for your help. The Course is 'Certificate in Training and Development' from IITD (Irish Institute of Training and Development). It runs in Shannon from 6-9 pm Tues and Thurs for 5 weeks.

Hi, If you qualified through the Nebosh National/International Diploma in OHS, then the introductory Communication Unit would be a useful resource in preparation for your Trainer course. Hope this helps, Sanyi

Hi If you are doing the training analysis in the Republic of Ireland, make sure you get the right training courses and standards. For example, I worked in a distribution center in Dublin, and the first aid training was done to UK HSE standards, but this was not the correct one, as in Ireland there is a different accrediting body. Similarly for manual handling, the trainer in the UK would need to be competent, but in Ireland they would need the relevant FETAC accreditation. Also, you may wish to see what NISO suggest. Ian

Hi, i have to agree with IanDakin, I myself have City & Guilds training, assessor and verifier awards which are fine for UK and NI but when I relocated to County Westmeath I had to complete a FETAC 'Train the Trainer' award accredited at Level 6. The business balls website mentioned previous is a good starting point for resources and ideas. Good Luck 7 Kind Regards
