We're currently working on a construction site for one of the big players, they're the Principal Contractor, we're the subcontractor. They had a full scale evacuation yesterday, and now they're asking us all for our own evacuation plans for the site.

Surely we just follow what theirs is?

It is not uncommon for sub contractors to work different hours from Principal Contractors, or for the Principal Contractor to move his staff between sites, leaving sub contractors to get on with their jobs. Under the circumstances the Principal Contractor is entitled to ask for a copy of your specific evacuation plan.

Technically the PC runs the site under their management system which should include evacuation plans etc.

However PH2 is correct; and note that your employees are your employees and not the PC's employees so any repercussions re your employees may come back to you

Additionally we are talking about other law here not just CDM where the other law dose not recognise the role etc. of a PC noting that we need to satisfy many laws on a construction site not just CDM; a point that many forget

We work as Subbies quite often, and draw up an evacuation plan each time.
This should tie in with the principal contractor's own plan.
