As a company we only provide eye test vouchers for DSE users but the majority of our staff are drivers. Is there anyone out there that deals with vehicles that provides eye test vouchers and how often fro drivers?

Also, how do you manage the whole process of this for eye exams for drivers

Ours are screening tested as part of annual OH, with referrals to opticians if recommended.

If there is a need for glasses for driving at work there is a need for them to be worn whilst driving but not at work. Therefore, glasses for 'normal' driving are not paid for, unless an RA says there is a need for safety glasses whilst driving or loading etc at work.

We will also provide safety glasses for spectacle wearers in work if requested, they are not a general requirement of the RA's.

We don't use a voucher scheme, your DSE voucher provider will probably have something set up.

Lisa, we currently don't but I would like to as although there is a statutory requirement for employers to provide tests for VDU users, I personally believe that a test for fleet drivers would be money better spent (but what do I know)

A well known high street optician change recently ran a campaign, claiming that one in six drivers would fail an eye test (whatever that actually means), all part of a marketing strategy to plug their sight test vouchers at £17 a go. They also have other resources.

I am sure you can work out who I am on abut but if not PM me and I will assist.

Same situation here (as there is no reason to make provision) and I whole heartedly agree the money would be better spent on drivers than PC users.

On a recent visit by an assessor for FORS (Fleet Operator Recognition Scheme - anyone delivering to the likes of Crossrail sites has to join etc), the assessor said that best practice is for us to buy an opticians chart to test the drivers that way. No mention mind of paying for drivers glasses.

Here in Scotland, general eye-sight exam and test is free. I'd be wary of spending on vouchers for drivers - a bit of a tripwire minefield I think.
The legal onus is on the driver not to drive with uncorrected defective vision.
Given that you offer the voucher, what do you do after that? "Enforce" the provision and wearing of spectacles?
