Afternoon folks, I have been asked to findout more on gaining ATEX Certification, in an explosive atmosphere classification. True to IOSH requiirements I'm asking fellow members as this is outside my realm of knowledge. Your thoughts on where to look (just starting Google), experiences, pros/cons etc, would be appreciated. When talking about ATEX (european directive) in the UK, best use the term DSEAR (Dangerous substances, explosive atmosheres Regulations) as these are our Regs that cover ATEX. Doing some Googling etc on DSEAR and getting a copy of the Regs will help you no end.

JJ, As indicated in my opening note we are to seek ATEX Certification, initially for one assembly which is our customers part with our bits added for sale further along the line. Eventually a whole range of products will be included and hopefully this will have a good knock on for a sister company. Badger

If Zone 2 only, then you can carry out an assessment and certify without the use of a notified body. If you are using European EX (Atex) compliant equipment of an appropriate Gas group and temperature class, then you only need to verify connections (glands etc)/installation does not present a risk of ignition. This verification, along with Declarations of conformity to Directive 94/9/EC will form your new technical file. You will not be able to demonstrate compliance if the equipment comprises of US or Canadian not ATEX approved components.
