Can you double stack Pallets at height in racking units?

Hi Guys
Is it acceptable to double stack loaded pallets at height in racking units? I have come across this practice in our warehouse and it is not sitting easy with me. Might just be my perception. I looked at HSE Guidance notes on warehouse safety and pallet safety but cannot see anything referencing double stacking at height. Would anyone know if this is acceptable practice?
Thanks

It depends. What is on the pallets? are they strapped down? are they interlocking stillages? Is the load within the safe working limit for the beam pair?

The same question came up in our workplace, my answer was if the load is secure and stable and it does not exceed the SWL of the rack or it is not too high for the rack then I can see no problem in storing them this way. In fact when I was a forklift driver I done the same thing on a regular basis.
If they are to be stored together for any length of time then it is not a bad idea to secure them to one another through the use of shrink wrap or banding. On the other hand if there are fragile items on either of the pallets is it a good idea to do this? I would say no
A good thing to look out for is the overall integrity of the pallets if they are in anyway f=damaged then they should not be up there.
Hope this helps
