Hi all,

I have been living in melbourne Australia for the last six years Working as a Safety Officer for a utilities company and would like to return home to Ireland or the UK,im finding it difficult to get a clear picture of the chances of employment in a similar role back home and would appreciate some feedback as to how things are travelling in Ireland and the UK

Regards

Things picking up a little in UK and there's plenty of utilities projects on the go - wind farms and e.g. Beaully to Denny transmission line replacement and new or refurbished sub-stations.

Also (in Scotland) various hydro pumped storage schemes and new hydro at various stages of development, but somewhat stalled due to lack of joined up thinking at policy level. Ditto new build nuclear.

Seen signs of construction safety roles picking up, not sure if these are agencies trying to get people on thier books though ?

Plenty of advertisements for oil and gas, may be worth a google search and speaking directly with companies and or advertising roles

My question would be why leave Australia ?

Hi Steve,

That's a very good question Alan!

I believe things are picking up and my role does sometimes venture into tendering and inquires seem to be coming through at a greater pace as of recent, hopefully something that shall continue.

My question to you Steve; what are the sought after qualifications down under for a Health & Safety Advisory role, a move to Australia is something me and my wife have been considering for some time.

Although i cant imagine it would be within the next 5 years i would be nice to know.

Regards,

Martin

Do you want to job swap Steve?
I have dreamt about moving to Oz for years but never had the opportunity/footballs to do anything about it.

Stuart
