BS7671:2011 as amended and will need to at a depth that ensures that it will not be damaged. Public highways are another story.

You could also try the NJUG guidance: http://www.njug.org.uk/publications/

Thanks for the reply guys.

I have found this on the HSE website which states that there isn't a statutory depth for underground cabling.

http://www.hse.gov.uk/electricity/faq-esqcr.htm

I can't find a free version of BS7671:2011 - Can anyone enlighten me what it states in there please.

The cable will be running approximately 50 metres through turf and will be armoured.

I have stated that the cable must run along the permitter of the lawn so that the location is known

Thanks Zimmy, I can't access the standard but does it specify a depth or just at a depth 'it will not be damaged'

Extract from BS7671:2008 522.8.10 - Buried cables, conduits and ducts shall be at a sufficient depth to avoid being damaged by any reasonably foreseeable disturbance of the ground.

wclark1238 said it well . |In a carden where you'll be digging at 1 foot, them bury the cable at 2 foot. Better still place warning tapes or tiles about six inches above the cable :-)

If you can use a RCD on the circuit. PM if needed.
