Hi all, I passed my nebosh gen last year, fire gen this year and currently working on lv6 diploma. It's proving difficult to complete and get my ideas across to my organisation thus preventing me from gaining any experience or supprt for that matter. I've been looking around for entry level roles within the field but its proving difficult to even get an interview. Since I started learning about health and safety it's gripped me, I'm so eager to learn more, any ideas would be most appreciated??

Hi safety chap

Difficulty getting ideas across is the biggest challenge in this business.

Read widely on communication, influence and marketing - adopt these principles and your task will be easier. It is not all about knowing everything or being an expert. If you can't sell, no-one will want to come into your shop, let alone buy.

KieranD gives good reading list tips on these fora, do a search?

Robert Cialdini, Chip Heath, Andy Bounds, off the top of my head are good starters. Try googling and then hit the library.

The technical stuff gives you confidence and the potential to build credibility, but it has to be mixed with communication skills (which includes listening too!).

You could also try looking at getting a certificate in environmental management (IEMA) as Occupational Health and Safety and Environmental management seems to have become a package in recent years.

I'm just about to start a course in this too, having completed 7 certificates and the diploma (I failed the diploma - because I'm bad at exams).
