Scientists are designing a "health and safety" cow without horns to help reduce the risk of injury to farmers and ramblers. They are using gene technology to create the genetically modified cattle by inserting a mutation into the cells of Holstein cows, Britain's biggest dairy species. Fiver farmers were killed and 91 injured in 2010-11, according to the Health and Safety Executive. http://www.telegraph.co....y-cow-with-no-horns.html

In other news, research has shown that 90% of pedestrians injured by cars were hit by the vehicle's bumper...therefore road safety campaigners are lobbying for car bumpers to be removed to prevent injury. April 1st appears to have come late in Daily Torygraph land...I hope

And I thought this was a Friday thread! Though you've arguable missed the more important benifit around eliminating the need for horn buds to be burned off which is painful for the cattle - a more noble reason to trial such a project?

True - but the DT seem to have labelled a story about something else (in this case animal welfare) as a "Health and Safety" story. I bet that's never happened before...

Unbelievable! They would be better off designing a cow with 16 teats, 4 that dispense chocolate milk, 4 that do skimmed milk, 4 that do butter....etc etc.
