A Paramedic acquaintance of mine was injured by a person she was attending to in his own home. The person is elderly and does not have capacity ,although she holds no grudge against him she has suffered from the injury since January through no fault of her own. If she was to seek compensation what would be her route ,employer or household insurance or other ? Any advice would be appreciated

Injured whilst working. Was the employer negligent? The answer to that will determine whether any claim in that direction succeeds.

There have been a number of cases recently reported in the press of police officers injured in the line of there work activities actually seeking compensation from the householder/ business owner, not directly against the police force.

Think we have to be a bit careful here...if the paramedic had injured herself as part of being at work after the individual had consented to treatment that is different from a police officer in the execution of his duties as they aren't required to get consent before treatment..!! The approach would be the same for any at work injury. If it was reported then it would be investigated as such...with ambulance staff it is rare that the householder would be involved in recovery of a claim...it would normally be the other way around!

Action against the employer is unlikely to succeed. Nor would I think household insurance likely to cover such risk.
