There has been a recent prosecution and the HSE stated
"An investigation by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) found that a lack of effective management control over operations in the pallet yard, combined with high stock levels, had led to an unsafe environment and stacks being made too tall, they must be stacked at a safe height"
But what is too tall for stacking pallets, yes we have risk assessments in place , but I would appreciate any views, opinions on what is thought of as a safe height for stacking pallets?

15 feet (I think) according to the National Fire Protection association due to fire concerns but a safe height will depend on many factors such as location, how many stacks together etc etc perhaps all already identified on your RA. the bottom line is that they are stable and don't collapse.

My old company (Warehousing and Distribution) had a policy. 25 high in the yard if the pallets were in good condition (GKN's etc.) 20 on the back of a trailer. Access to the yard was restricted. FLT Drivers were trained to make sure no-one was near when stacking
You will need to apply a lot of common sense for stacking damaged pallets.

Ah yes forgot all about the search problems.
I also got the dates wrong it was in Sep last year. You could narrow the search down and retry putting my name in as the search subject. "Clive Lowery"
From memory I recall that pallets at 15 high is just right for stacking on a Flatbed Trailer to get under a motorway bridge, times this amount by two gives 30 high. No point splitting loads to 20 or 25, just makes more work for the pallet truck.
