Can anybody direct me as to where I can acquire the maximum weight limits for public roads/highways? We are proposing a mobile crane lift from a public road (50 tonne crane). I am mindful that there is probably maximum weight restrictions for the road and that there may be weight limits for the drainage. Any advice would be very much appreciated.

Also, are polyester strops acceptable as lifting accessories for the lifting of scaffold bundles?

Jarsmith You really need to know the rigger loadings. These would be provided by the Crane Company. London Boroughs have different traffic management plans so you should talk to their Traffic Office. Rigger Loadings if my memory serves me correctly have to be reduced to 10tonne per square meter. Again the Local Council will give you this. Nothing wrong with using polyester strops providing the are certificated and inspected. I feel you are heading towards a Contract Lift here and give the crane company the headaches ,it will be more expensive but they will have all the contact details. Ta Alex

Thanks Alex, I thought this was the case but required clarification I have been staring at the British standards on this for half a day and I am starting to go blind :-) At present we are using a scaffold company and the lifting plan is dismal to say the least. They have a 'competent person'. They are hiring a crane with a driver but they are managing the lift.
