Hi all. I have a DSE user in my region who has been diagnosed with symphysis pubis dysfunction. I have some information on the NHS website (Link below) but have found very little advice for DSE users so look to you guys for some guidance. Has anyone come across this before and is there any way we can make this lady more comfortable. Thanks if you can help. http://www.nhs.uk/condit...d.aspx?tabname=pregnancy

Hi Ivor I've experienced this personally but not had to deal with it in an employee. From a first thought though, I would have that sitting at the computer was one of the more comfortable positions with SPD. Walking, standing and any positions with legs apart are uncomfortable/painful with this condition and with a decent computer chair (hopefully the one she already has) she should be in less pain when sitting than in most other positions. Work might also take her mind off it...... Have you talked to her about her pain levels and is she more uncomfortable at work than normally sitting? If so, I would think about a replacement chair during the pregnancy and first few months after birth - look for better lumbar/pelvic support. Keep HR in the loop with this one - it may be that she ends up in too much pain full stop and hence has to stop work slightly earlier than planned. Occupational health should be used if you have it and all advice taken from GP (Statement of fitness for work? Has her GP advised anything officially re: changes to her work whilst pregnant?) Poor thing - I feel for her!

Thanks Mootoppers. I havn't spoke to her yet, just wanted to do some research first. Yes, she will have a fully compliant DSE chair but was wondering if there is more that we can do. We could look at a new chair but will need to decide which one. Thanks for you help on this. I think the HR route may be sooner than later. Ivor.
