Just to be pragmatic, I agree the lift inspectors are usually sufficiently independent of the lift operators / manufacturers. However if they are inspecting a new type of life, would it not be wise to at least speak to the manufacturers to understand how the lifts work and which components are safety critical from a safety /structural/safe operation point of view. Then carry out the inspections independently etc
