Could anyone tell me if voltage testers require calibration and if so, point me in the direction of the guidance please. I was under the impression that the voltage tester and/or a known source was suffice in ensuring the correct reading but have just been cross examined, I mean asked :-) by the client.

jarsmith,
Only equipment that "measures" requires calibration.
A voltage "indicator" does not measure, it "indicates", thus does not require calibration.

I agree with the other posters; your customer has got his Q tangled in his H&S
Even in Quality it's perfectly OK to have devices labelled "indication only".

Jim - I too discovered this ESC site only recently and spent hours playing with the socket overload 'game' (see under landlord info). Really good stuff. Nicely presented. Good resource.

Fun isn't it?!
Seriously though, I'm surprised how few people know of this resource.

The ESC site is OK, however, there are some issues with the information there in to be honest.
Oh, and yes there are people who take them to task over it.
