I know I am missing something obvious but I have been in work early and can't see it for looking.
I am using the MAC tool to look at a manual handling operation so I have completed the guidence filled in the colour and the numerical score, got a total and I can't find what catagory it falls under i.e. Green, Amder, Red or Purple. The maximum score is 31 (team handling) and minimum is 0, but it doesn't appear to say what the cut of for each level is between 0 and 31.
As I say I know I am missing something but can't find the answer. Anyone help.

The HSE don't provide any score information (The RRC do in their diploma notes but not sure of the source - and I don't have a set with me today)
I think the point is that the tool is just a part of the risk assessment process and designed to help prioritise areas and actions - not to assign a score so we can say - hmm only 10 I'll do nothing.
I always focus on the colour for each section not overall...
hmm does that help - I appear to have just waffled about not much :)

The one, that's what I used.
teh-boy do you mean if a particular aspect of the whole task is coloured red or purple then you look at the aprticular point and not the task overall?

Yes...
That's how I've used it in the past... I think we're talking about the same thing :)
If you are still confused PM me and I'll send my phone number - might be easier than short replies on here?
I've always used
Purple - Stop
Red - urgent review
Amber - review
Green - crack on (unless easy improvements can be made)
I think the RRC split the score into three groups
0-10 - broadly acceptable
10 - 20 - review needed
20-30 - not acceptable
or something like that - like I said I don't have time to check notes today.. sorry :(

Like teh_boy, I use the score sheet to identify the particular aspects of the task that require action. Rather than ask the employee to carry out the task repeatedly while I consider each aspect, I video the task and review it as often as required to analyse the work in detail.
