I understand that pathology laboratories are to be accredited to ISO 15189 standards and, as this does not cover H&S, there are plans to require accreditation to ISO 15190 (Medical laboratories - Requirements for safety). Does anyone have any experience of applying ISO 15190 or an idea of the latest situation? Are the standards to be updated?
Any information on this would be appreciated

I'm not sure that this will interest anyone given the avalanche of replies to my original post but I've looked into this matter further and can confirm that ISO 15190 is not due for an update and laboratories will not be assessed against these standards during their accreditation (ISO 15189) inspections. I have heard that assessors would be expected to report any 'major' H&S concerns but I feel that this puts an undue expectation and responsibility on them.
