Been talking to a Contractor regarding undertaken Fixed Wire testing for Company I work for. His company is NAPIT registered, not NICEIC. Now I haven't dealt with any Contractors from NAPIT, so my knowledge is very minimal, but are NAPIT Approved Contractors as Competent as NICEIC, is there really much difference in the two Organisations, other than one being more established???

My understanding is that they have equal standing in terms of fixed wire testing.

NAPIT
The electrician doing the inspection and testing MUST have (IMHO) the following qualifications:
17th Ed wiring regs
C&G 2391 or 2395 (nothing less... You have been warned)
Regarding NICEIC/NAPIT? NAPIT is my first choice for reasons I cannot go into details in a public forum at this time.
Some people insist on NICEIC membership but it is the man or woman doing the work that is the important thing... Not less than the above. If the wiring is old then and someone over 40 years old would be the best choice as they will have the skills in depth regarding older regs when the wiring was installed.

Oh, and, there are issues with all schemes as you well know.
Do all NAPIT contractors get assessed on their competence on Industrial, commercial & domestic?
Do all NICEIC "operatives" get assessed at all?

There is no quick & easy answer, however as Zimmy says, the person(s) doing the inspection MUST be competent to do so & be familiar with the regulations in force at the time of the install.
They MUST have above average knowledge & competence, and MUST consider related standards to do the job in accordance with the requirements of BS7671.
