Work experience opportunities in Hampshire?

If you have your NEBOSH NGC but have no industry experience, where do you start? I have been advised to get some work experience to help improve my employment chances, but where do you start? After sending out a few requests, I have yet to find any suitable work, either paid or voluntary. Any advice on who to approach?

Hi Cathy
I can empathise with you as I have the same qual as you and lack of experience in the industry. I managed to secure some work experience through a local authority which was good but that was a year ago. Still banging on the potential employers doors whilst studying for my Diploma which is hard going to say the least. Determined to get there in the end though as funded everything myself. Good luck to you!!

|Hi Gordy,
A little frustrating, I agree.
Good luck with the Diploma. I am just starting prep for the Environmental Certificate and hoping to sit the course/exam before the end of this year, funds allowing!
Let us know how it all goes for you.
Regards
Cathy

Hi Cathy, I work at a large technology site in Havant, if that is within easy reach, you could pop in and at least have a chat about what you are aiming to do, I may be able to offer something to at least improve you CV.
Best Regards

I think you need to primarily be looking for positions where there is already a safety professional on site and who needs a second person to help due to workload. That way you can gain decent experience without jumping in at the deep end. I would suggest to update your CV and upload it to a jobs website such as reed and make it searchable....but do then avoid putting to much personal data on it. Set up an email and use that, put the area where you live but not your exact address and provide a mobile phone number etc., rather than a landline number. Also get yourself registered with some local job agencies as work can come up and be gone before you maybe get to see it. With regards to your CV let's be honest you 'probably' run a household and family and I am sure you undertake risk assessments and put in place safety controls all the time. If you have children for example I am quite sure you take responsibility for their safety. When you make your CV use some unconventional stuff on there if it is safety related and correct, it may just make the difference and get you noted. So you have your Nebosh, well how do you apply it in your life....think about it because safety is not just about at work.

Hi Cathy,
I am involved with a construction project in Basingstoke and we may require additional H&S support.
Can you forward me on a copy of your CV?
