Good morning, Whilst I am aware that there are fire retardant types available, does anyone have any idea as to the flammability of standard 100% polyester high vis vests / waistcoats. These are apparently made to BS EN 471, but I can't seem to find out what the fire retardant properties of these are (or are not). Many thanks for any info. Mike

Polyester will burn and melt, but is less "combustible" (not flammable - this refers to flash point based classifications for liquids and gases) than cotton. As I understand it BS EN 471 is only about the reflective properties. Hopt this helps.

From what I understand they are reasonably flammable/combustible, there have been over a number of years accidents involving hot works and clothing including HiViz melting and sticking to skin. If in doubt use flame / fire retardent types, even these will burn/melt to a degree but not as much and will protect operative more.
