Woohoo I have got a job interview on Friday. A bit short notice but hey :P.
need to remember how to be in one now. I'm reading up on the history of the business and who's in charge now. What I can bring to them, strengths weaknesses.
what else can I do to come across well?

Read any annual reports or any information that may not be easily accessible, i.e. on their webpage. This will show that you have put the work in and have a real interest in what they do. Link what you will bring and how this can fit into their ethos. Demonstrate that you understand their business and the hazards that will be present. What you want to demonstrate is that you are aware of all the hazards, risks they present, issues that may affect implementation but that you are confident that these can be achieved and that you are more than competent to achieve this. It might be worthwhile having examples of what you will be expected to deal with and a definite plan of how you will deal with it. Kevin

Congratulation on the job interview. I know it can be tough in the present climate trying to find the right position
Ensure you turn up at least 10 min before the interview.
Meet and greet is extremely important. Towards the end of the interview thank them for their time. At the end of the day most employers want someone who is competent and easy-going.
If the company has a website I would read it over and over to ensure I know as much as possible about the company. What I have found is that they normally ask you what you know about the company in which case you could have something prepared before you go in .
If during the interview you get asked a tricky question try and relate it to your own experience , this will show that you have real life experience and a true understand of what real health and safety is all about. On the other hand if your asked a question which you have no knowledge of don't try and bluff if. It looks better for the interviewee to say they have no experience within that area but would very much like to develop your knowledge further within that area.
Additionally a popular question is tell me about yourself? again have something prepared and try and relate your experience qualifications to the role on offer.
I wish you all the best with the interview you will do fine.
All the best.

Good luck.
You may want to find out if you can if it is a competency based interview?
Other than that helpful tips would be to come over as enthusiastic, have some examples up your sleeve ready to talk about times you went the extra mile, previous challenges, how you can demonstrate your commitment to H&S etc.
Also have a think about areas for personal development in the future.
Ask plenty of questions about H&S in the company i.e culture, enforcement action, challenges etc
If they ask if you have done something or have knowledge be honest if you haven't but give an example of a time when you have taken on new tasks or learnt something quickly.
Its very tough times out there so work your socks off from now until Friday and all the very best.

Good luck with the interview.
Don't forget to think of a good question to ask the company at the end to show them that you are interested in them!

Hi thanks for the tips everyone. I have had the interview and asked for feed back at the end what ever the outcome. I have not heard anything from them even though I was told I would have an answer from them last week. Suppose I have to presume they don't want me, just as well really as after travelling there I found it a bit to far to commute especially since there a ton of road works on the M27 at the moment. I have applied for another one in titchfield by me so just crossing my fingers.
its very demoralising, all I want to do is get a permanent job to be able to get a mortgage for me and the other half and I cant really afford to do the NVQ even though I would like to. I cant do the Dip (classroom = NO :P ).

Have a read of this if you have not done so already. Don't be too hard on yourself, if the job was not right then you may well not have been happy there anyway, not much worse in work terms than being in a job/position/organisation that you absolutely dread going into in a morning - been there done that etc. Keep looking something will turn up. Best wishes Stuart http://forum.iosh.co.uk/...spx?g=posts&t=106206

In any situation this is absolutely the key. If it is comeptency based - go in with the expectation they could ask you anything and lots of Qs with no relation to OHS! I had a comeptency based interview, not 1 question about OHS and before hand I had googled "comeptency based interview questions and answers" and literally memorised 20-30 real life exampels of situations to answer a plethora of potential questions. - Turned out that my studying worked well as only 1 question was tricky that I hadn't got a preloaded answer for, which I could deal with on the spot as I wasn't exhausted by being put on the spot for other examples!
