Agree with all - the hazards of a Manufacturing Engineering company have kept me gainfully employed for the past 18 years - where do you want to start? There is a good publication out there Health and Safety in Engineering Workshops http://www.hse.gov.uk/pubns/books/hsg129.htm Copy the link into your browser, the publication is free to download and would be a good starting point for this question.

'Engineering' covers a wide range of different situations (construction of an offshore oil rig, aerospace, precision manufacture of UHF equipment, pneumatics, medical equipment, production of paint manufacturing equipment, etc., just to mention a few in which I have been involved in the past years). Whilst there will be common factors, each will have some particular practises and processes that will be unique to them and offer different hazards and risks - and also different control approaches. The individual health and safety policy will need to identify and reflect and special situations. Chris

Thanks guys, i have an interview tomorrow with an engineering company. My first interview as an health and safety officer, looking forward to it.. Any tips?

Massive area of control. Has to be handling safely and risk of body injuries. Also safe production / manufacturing / maintenance hazards working @ height / confined space / machinery safety. Endless list with PUWER & COSHH regulatory compliance. Just start by listing all the hazards across the disciplines e.g puwer - entanglement, crushing, etc etc. COSHH - Inhlation, ingestion etc etc; Welfare Regs safe access / egress - main hazards slips trips & falls etc;
