Hi
I have just had an inspection of my vehicle lift and been told to replace the wire ropes. They are in good visual condition but he says that BS7980 insists that they be changed every 6 years. I can find a recommendation that they be replaced after 9000 lifts (which we are nowhere near) but not the 6 years he is quoting. Has anyone any experience of similar recommendations because at over £2500 i'm not rushing into it.
Thanks

BS7980
Clause 6.2 Routine inspection (c) (i) then makes reference to
BS4309 Cranes - wire ropes, care, maintenance and inspection and discard
Clause 6 - Renew load suspension ropes after 6yrs maximum irrespective of apparent condition.
British Standards are not legally binding, so you don't have to change the ropes - although you would have a hard time showing you had acted reasonably if a lift failed due to wire rope failure.

Just re-read the criteria
The 6yr criteria is within BS7980 - clause 6.2
The other criteria for rope rejection is within BS4309 e.g. broken strands/chafing/kinks in the rope etc
It reads a litle confusing
