Hi I know this is not a straightforward question but on average as a client can anyone tell me how long it takes to assess and appoint a contractor from receiving the tenders to them starting work on your site? I will give my apologies now for the ambiguity of the question. Many thanks

Hi there David, I assess a lot of vendors that come to the Portsmouth Naval Base and i look at the SHE pack that gets sent to them and depending on the score depends if they can come on site or not. in some cases its inbetween and so gets sent back for them to improve what they have submitted. Then you have the quality team that goes through the insurance and other things. The packs can be assessed pretty quickly as long as its a good pack and sometimes the contractors are needed for the next day so it all depends how they are assessed, but i would say min of 24 hours.

David You are asking the proverbial - "How long is a piece of string" As the preious thread has said 24 Hrs if it is an emergency, 6 months if the Client is dragging their heels

Depends upon the complexity or otherwise of the project/tender and how intelligently the RFQ etc has been compiled for effective vetting, shortlisting, appointment so that work can be started at the earliest.

Thank you for your replies. I had been asked to try and calculate what resources are required and Yes it's how long is a piece of string. We are currently asking contract coordinators to record the time it takes them to assess various tenders, then we'll take an average.
