Morning all. I have been asked if there are any H&S issues with erecting bollards on private property (outside a shop) which is used by passing pedestrians. The problem is cars and lorries driving onto it and breaking the paving slabs. I've had a look around and all I could find is the DOT guidance: https://www.gov.uk/gover...-and-pedestrian-movement Is this all the guidance I need, or is there something else that I should be looking at (i.e. building regs)? Thanks in advance.

Avoiding underground services. Protecting public during installation. Avoiding ironic risk arising from vehilces involved in the installation work. Ensuring Emergency Service vehicle access is not impeded. Access for property Maintenance (Avoiding likely pitch of scaffold standards for example). Consider the requirements of those with mobility (mobility scooters etc) and visual impairment. Some of our street and pedestrian areas are hopelessly cluttered with street furniture. (If I ruled the World) I'd make it law that any vehicle mounting the pavement in a public place without proper authorisation could be clamped, with a minimum £500 recovery fee. Similar fine applied where contravention proven via CCTV evidence. And every day WOULD be the first day of Spring. Rant over.

U must make it clear just what U mean by private property as if it is a shop that opens onto the public highway/footpath then the LA needs to be involved as that area immediately infront of the shop is not uaually private property Are the pavings being broken yours [the shops] or the LA's NB: The 20 year rule may also apply even where everything is technicially 'private' property inclusive of the footpaths to / from the shop

Thanks guys. Bob. This is private as regards a certain distance from the shop front. The rest of the footpath is public. They have already sought permission from the LA who are fine with it. Ron, thanks. Lots to think about.
