We are looking at how we categorise incidents and as you can imagine bit like Riddor get lots of views, so what do you think of the following scenarios? We don't want to over or under report but would welcome views and what others do. What would you categorise the following as?

Van driver, getting out of the drivers side door, after parking the vehicle gets pain in back, goes off for couple of days.?

Warehouse op walking through the warehouse falls , did not trip, over any obstacles, bruise to writs, couple of days absent Went to his DR and could not establish any reason for the fall?

Drivers parks his vehicle ( company van)on the road, walking to site and trips over pavement causing bruise to ankle , several days absent?

Thanks

On the information provided I would say all three scenarios are all work related, the exception might be the third incident because it is not clear whether the IP is at work or on his way to work. The first scenario is an injury - not an accident. Some might classify it an accident - semantics to some extent.

The other two incidents are accidents even though the cause of the accident may be established. People can slip, trip and fall on just about anything and any surface - that's life.

The simple way to classify incidents or events as they are better known is with the following categories: Incident; Accident; Injury; Near Miss and Environmental. However, it is not worth getting too precious about whether something is one or the other, recording it, finding the cause and implementing corrective measures is the important bits.
