As the 'competant person' i undertake monthly testing of our emergency lighting, no problems there. However, annual testing is proving problematic. I believe the requirement is for.................. "Each luminaire and internally illuminated sign should be tested for its full rated duration in accordance with the manufacturer's information". Unfortunatly, i dont have the manufacturers information and therefore do not know each luminaires full rated duration. Any suggestions?.

Do you know the battery Amp/hr rating?
Then you could calculate the time to discharge.

Do you know the manufacture? Google them and ask, if the information isn't on their company website.

I've got the details off the ones in the offices and stairways, i'm struggling with 4 high level sets in the workshop, i might have to wait for the emergency lighting annual servicing to see if these guys can see anything as they get a cherry picker in.

In accordance with BS 5266-1 -
"Records Records of the emergency lighting system should be kept, including the location and type of emergency lighting system components, e.g. luminaires, test devices and any central power units. Copies of these records should be passed to the responsible person to assist with future investigations, and to assist in the design of any extensions or modifications to the premises or the emergency lighting system."
So, if you are to carry out you job correctly and effectively, you require these records from the responsible persons of the building.
Also - 50172:2004 Defines the testing requirements and the certification required.
If none of this information is available, the responsible person/building manager should have a full survey complete in order for the issue of a site log book, before you proceed with your on site tests.
Just been through the same process/pain :-) We are having this 'discussion with the client at present because we are not being allowed to carry out our contractual duties due to the client not having the applicable information.
