We have been having a spot of bother at work with our ladders. Last year we had a RIDDOR reported accident with a set of ladders collapsing on one of our workers. This month whilst doing an audit, I confiscated a set of ladders with the same problem. Thankfully, an accident was avoided. The problem is the hinges. They were not locking in place. The ladders we have been buying recently keep having to be withdrawn as the hinges are faulty. We are currently looking for a new brand to buy. The problem is, we could end up with the same problem further down the line. The ladders we use are the 3m folding ones - they need to be this kind, as most of the guys have cars, and they need to fit inside. Also, they need to be fairly light weight as they carry a fair bit of kit, visiting up to 7 houses a day. A suggestion are the telescopic ones as they are easier to use. The problem with these is that you can't put them up in a middle of a room (unless you can get a version that have this function for free standing) Can anyone recommend a brand of ladders (EN131) that are sturdy and reasonably light!
