I work for a charity preventing social isolation among the elderly and have been asked whether we should do a risk assessment for every trip we arrange. We have two fully accessible minibuses and have risk assessments in place for the users getting on and off the bus via either the step or lift. Our chief officer and trustees are now asking if we should do them for every outing but where is the line to be drawn is it practical to take a day out to assess the risks at the coast, or every pub, restaurant, theatre or shop/shopping centre. any guidance much appreciated

Always a good draw - the outings bus. First, may I suggest that there's reams of Guidance available to get your policies formulated. Personally, I see this as a multi-function RA activity; the firsr part of which you've addressed. Now think about the range and type of different places to which your vehicles may go and identify all the common points and decide how you wish to address them. Then build-in the none-similar remainder and take it from there. Frank Hallett
