Hi all,

I am looking for a few up to date pointers. I obtained my NEBOSH Diploma in 2008 whilst being trained up to take on the company role from the then H&S manager. The company decided (not long after I obtained the Diploma) that they would outsource the H&S department. I subsequently went on to have a childcare break and now wish to return to H&S but I am trying to understand where to pitch myself job wise.

I am rusty on the practical side so would love a supported/learning position.

I love making a difference in H&S so any pointers would be ideal

Any ideas?

Carol

Hi Carol,

I think it will be very helpful to refresh yourself/revise over the duties and responsibilities of a health and safety officer. If you are still working with your previous employer, to revisit the training you were taken through. You could offer to volunteer to carry out some h & s stuff on ad-hoc basis. Of course you may also apply for roles that will give you the opportunity to build on your practical experience.
Alongside, attending your branch IOSH meetings to build on your cpd.

I suggest to register/chat with two or more decent H&S staff agencies and run through your CV and see what they suggest; they normally have a decent handle on things. I am quite sure there is a suitable place for yourself in which you can contribute whilst also building your experience.

Regards.
