Hi Has anyone had experience of working with the NHS to achieve Breathe Easy Awards, I am looking at this as a method to reduce smoking in the DCs I work in. Do you find this effective or have you got better methods you could recommend (short of banning all smoking on site) Ian

a company I know banned all smoking on its sites and the NHS advisers were not happy as they said that the employer should help the workforce to stop smoking using the systems they advocate - employers staff said that the best thing that happened was that the employer banned cigs as cessation was never good enough as people have tried but give up the courses whereas the ban helped people stop
just a thought and a comment as talking to many drug experts they say to me that going cold turkey is the best method to use

A former colleague purchased ten copies of "easy way to stop smoking" by Allen Carr and gave them out free of charge to smokers he worked with stipulating that they only paid for them if they stopped smoking. Seven of the ten not only paid for their copies once they quit but several also passed on their books to other smokers in the workplace, causing a chain reaction that has continued to develop over the past eighteen months. Will power and support backed up with knowledge has had the desired effect here reducing the number of smokers at work from over forty down to six.
