Just been reading a couple of articles relating to the review of the CDM regulations, and it now looks like that the date for this review has now been given an X certificate rating!!! Whats our good iosh folks opinions on whether or not these regulations will actually be reviewed/replaced before the general election next year? Personnally i dont think that they will be in place prior to the election. anyone else care to comment.

I attended the CONIAC meeting last week. A total of approx 2 minutes was devoted to the subject of the CDM Regs. The current position is that the HSE are waiting for ministerial sign off to issue the draft for public consultation. They said that they expected to receive this within days rather than weeks. They also said that they where still on course for introduction of new regs by April next year. Make of that what you will. Regards

Still sounds as though nobody is really desperate to change things as yet. Loss of the CDMC profession is no bad thing in my view as they have long outlived any useful input as the designers were never truly committed to questions from an "outsider" who dared to ask them to prove their design considerations for constructability and safety. The concentration was far too much on the contractor alone to prove H&S competence as required by the regs. I very rarely see the CDMC proving competence except by APS membership

I was under the impression nothing was going to happen this side of the election.

I was (informally) informed that the very last election beating cut-off date was last Friday. I also suspect that any discussion about the ‘Domestic Client’, is far too sensitive a subject for the lead-up to the European Election, so on this occasion I think that this version has been firmly kicked into the long grass.

Why not just ammend the current regs to meet the european directive and hand over the duties of the CDM -c to the relevent peron(s) i.e principle designer, project manager, Principle Contractor? Or is that too simple?

That is exactly how it was supposed to happen back in 1994!
