Hi,
I have just been informed of a RIDDOR incident which actually occurred on 2nd January!! Member of staff had over 7 days off sick as a result of a back strain which occurred at work. I found this out by chance and I now have the incident form (completed today) - Clearly this has gone well over the timescales for reporting to the HSE. We have policies in place which clearly state the timescales for reporting incidents, and a "staff RIDDOR guide" but desite this, the member of staff "forgot" to complete the incident form. Would you still report this 3 months after the incident occurred? I am inclined to, but just wanted a bit of advice really. Many thanks

It would be an offense if you did not report it. Report as normal and hopefully it will not come back, but if it did then just explain the whys and wherefores as well as a tightening up of procedures...

It's a continuing offence until reported with the potential that if HSE were to prosecution, there could be a daily penalty as well as the main fine.
But if you report it, there will probably be little comeback.

A potential improvement that could be made to your system, if you do not do it already and if practicable , is to have a prompt whether the sickness absence is due to a work related accident/event when the individual initially reports sick. Sometimes it may be somebody else reporting on behalf of the "sick" person.
