Hi - I work in a gym and a colleague wants to start his own fit club on a patch of lawn outside (health club premises). Anyone can join in (public too). The guy running this is a trained gym instructor who works for the health club. He is going to be doing this in his own time and the Fit Club is not being organised by the club, but will be advertised in-house.
Questions:
1. From a H&S perspective, if there was an injury to a participant, how can I ensure the health club is protected of any potential claim?
2. Also, would the gym instructor need some kind of special insurance to protect himself from potential injury claims?
Really appreciate any thought and guidance on this. Thank you.

Hi ya,
I would imagine that a contract would be draw up between the PT and the club with regard to use of the grounds, whereby it can be stipulated that the club doesnt take responsibility? (once the area of ground is level, free from SLT hazards so as that is not causing the risk).
With regards to the PT, I would suggest he gets personal cover.
