Whilst driving a car I could not believe my eyes when I passed a lady riding a bike and towing a small child (3/4 years old) in a buggy or trailer. It may well be legal, but should there be an accident, especially from behind, the child would stand no chance. I'm not a risk averse person but really...this can't be right in London's suburbia?

I'm frightened of riding on roads anyway. However, is this really any different from those parents who carry their youngsters on a backpack or in a kiddy seat on a bike?

David, I suppose my main concern is high vehicles who might not see the buggy or stop in time. Even a very slow impact from the rear could be fatal for the child because of the low proximity and the lack of robustness of buggy. The bike rider is unlikely to see the potential of danger from behind.

There's quite a few round our way and it's sometimes a bit difficult to see the flag behind a high hedge.
