Hotelier undergoing a Gas Safe inspection has been given a long list of non -compliances including Catering Equipment not compliant with Regulations, no gas interlock, no flame supervision, gas pipe undersized and canopy/duct is aluminium and non compliant. The report does not mention whether they are referring to the Gas Safety Regulations 1998 or British Standard BS 6173 but it is worring that the previous inspections did not identify these issues.

I have a feeling they might be referring to BS6173 that I understand is not retrospective.

Anybody else had experience of this and can offer any pointers? (It is also interesting to note that the issues have not been identified during EHO visits).

Ta.

I doubt an EHO would have the skill set to be able to identify most of the issues you have highlighted below. It's a bit too specialist for them. Most EHOs detailled with inpsections are likely to be food hygeine specialists.

I thought the same.

I am also trying to find out whether hoteliers are required to retro fit interlocking systems to existing installations.

Please refer to the HSE guidance:-

Gas safety in catering and hospitality CAIS23
http://www.hse.gov.uk/pubns/cais23.pdf

Ventilation of kitchens in catering establishments CAIS10
http://www.hse.gov.uk/pubns/cais10.pdf

It is do with risk assessment and controls
