I have recently taken up a post at a Housing Association.
There is planned maintenance project to install Damp Proof Course in a number of out houses, over several streets and estates.
Total work for the project would make it notifiable, although obviously the manhours for each property would make it non notifiable.
Is an F10 required?

Add up the total working days for the project, not the time for each property.

If it will take over 30 working days or 500 person days to complete. Its notifiable.

Multiple locations - as Paul says add up the hours.

If in doubt report it, not a problem if you do but may be a problem if you don't.

A friend of mine is doing a refurbishment of a barn for a private customer and is planning to take at least 20 weeks to finish it. Does the fact that he's doing it directly for the customer change whether it's F10 notifiable or not, even though he will work over 500 hours on the project?

As you did not specify a Domestic Client then it must be notifiable!!!!

To clarify Bob's reply, if the friend's private customer is a domestic client then it is not notifiable, no CDM C.

However the CDM Regulations do apply.

Or in other words be very careful in what you say when an arch pedant is around. The radiographer reading my wife's last CT scan had a good one on his scan report.

After the patient details and reason for the scan he/she states " The patient appears to be tilted" That is it - my wife is worse than me and takes it to mean that she is officially wonky!!!:-)

Cheers Bob (and FS101) for your responses.

It is a domestic dwelling.

Not sure about medication but after my accident which resulted in my right leg being nearly half an inch shorter than the left, i was given a raised heel to insert in my shoe to cure my 'wonkiness' if that is indeed a word.

We are going off piste here a little. My own consultant states my left leg is a full 1/2 inch shorter tahn my right. When asked to amplify he says well it is at least 3/4 inch but he could not be sure!!! Heigh Ho another thread coming perhaps.

Seriously though Notification always seems to be a bug bear for many people. I always take the view that nothing is really gained if the project is not notified as the duties set out in CDM are really not that much more onerous, if at all, if notified or not.

The advantage of notifying would be that you can do the whole project in 1 F10. There would be one CPP and a set of site specific method statements for each location.

I do CDM C consultancy for a living so contact me if you want any specific help.
