I have heard that from next year that all FAaW training will have to have a PETLS qualified trainer to conduct training - or was this a marketing ploy by a training provider. Can anyone shed any light on that one, please?

I think it is from Oct 2015 but there are a number of acceptable qualifications for trainers and assessors. See document No 1 on the following site http://www.skillsforheal...est&searchphrase=all

Thanks Alistair, again this seems to be a self regulating proposal, which is the way forward, but have you seen any HSE requirements for this type of training?

From 1 October 2013 HSE no longer approves training and qualifications for the purposes of first aid at work. Training organisations who were formerly ‘Approved’ by HSE to deliver First Aid at Work Training can no longer claim to be HSE Approved or use their HSE Approval number. There is more details on the HSE website regarding the broad criteria and link to a document on the Skills for Health website http://www.hse.gov.uk/fi...d/first-aid-training.htm http://www.skillsforheal...r-2013-acg-approved.html

My understanding is that the HSE guidance allows you to use First aid training providers who offer regulated qualifications accredited by an Awarding Organisation recognised by Ofqual or a provider from the Voluntary Aid Societies. You can also use providers who operate independently of such accreditation schemes but the onus is then on you to check competence, etc, which we have kept clear of.
