Hi, Can anyone please advise if a dental surgery is being stripped out, is there a need for clearance certificate regarding radiation before contractors go in to complete a fit out?

Would really appreciate some help on this. Many Thanks.

I don't see any need. When the machine is off, there is no radiation and the radiation it has produced when it was switched on cannot induce radiation in other things.

If the machine is still there, you need to consider how to dispose of it. Bear in mind that the generator is a vacuum tube. The equipment can be extremely heavy, and there is likely to be some lead shielding around the place, possibly in the form of a 'sandwich' with plywood.

I am sure you have thought about the mercury in the premises.

If it's an x-ray machine, there's no possibility of a radiation hazard unless the power is on - which I presume it isn't! X-rays can't make anything else 'radioactive' - the hazard is from the rays themselves, which are electrically generated.

If the machine is being scrapped, I suggest you ensure the radiation warning signs are removed after it is electrically disconnected, to avoid potential concerns as it is handled by others later.
