Can anyone point me in the direction of a British Standard, or guidance for clothing to be worn in hazardous areas in relation to static risk?

Dont know of any standard but as a general rule cotton rich clothing produces very little static. Hospitals use 100% cotton sheets to prevent static when using oxygen.

I would suggest that the clothing would be based upon the risk, for example if your are working in a components factory dealing with capacitors, diodes IPC etc then the risk of static would be different from that working in a hazardous area like a refinery where vapour can form and the risk for ignition is significantly increased...

The original query is specifically about clothing for hazardous areas - struggling to see the direct relevance of work in an electronics factory where components may be sensitive to static electicity and hence lead to the production of defective components.

Adam try BS EN 1149-1:1996 Protective clothing. Electrostatic properties. Surface resistivity (test methods and requirements as well.
