As far as I was aware it is illegal for any business to burn there waste ? I have seen this highlighted and mentioned on a few council websites and also seen other council websites not contain any information at all about burning commercial waste? Can someone with a bit more Env knowledge enlighten me please

You can get a permit of the local authority to burn waste, on a factory site,

Yes it is illegal to burn commercial or industrial waste unless you have registered an exemption with the Environment Agency. Exemptions generally only cover specific types of wastes in limited quantities eg burning of clean untreated wood or plant material, either in the open or in incinerators or heating devices. An environmental permit is required if you want to use waste oil in a heating appliance. See https://www.gov.uk/brows...nvironmental-regulations for detail of regulations and exemptions

Generally not considered an appropriate way of disposing of waste and only in specific cases as #3. Also Clean air Act - no dark smoke - max fine £20K ( I think also possible 6 month prison) Environmental protection act 1990 - Nuisance. Generally not worth going there. Hope this helps answer the question. Chris

Thank you all - I thought this was the case, just found it strange how some council web pages mentioned this out right and on others there was literally no information on this at all.
