Could you please confirm i am correct in assuming that the thorough inspection of ladders is a legal obligation under PUWER, to be carried out every 6 or 12 months, depending on frequency of use and the environment it is used in? If so, could somebody direct me to the relevant quote.

The legal obligation comes from the Work at Height Regs Reg 12 - and the requirement is for inspection at "suitable intervals" (...and each time it is set up in a new position... but don't get me started on that again!.) The requirement to record is at Reg 12(6)...
