We have just been quoted £1.45 per item plus a twenty pound fixed fee from a local electrician for this testing. I didn't really know how much this cost elsewhere I have worked and was a bit shocked. I guess it has to be worth their while and we probably have 100 plus items at each site (so not as many items as others may have). I genuinely thought that the cost was a fraction of this, and wondered if we were being ripped off.
So I thought I would do a straw poll and see what others pay.

When I had a static caravan they (the site) charged £5 per item!!!
When I asked why this was neccessary, they said it was the law........! When I pointed out that EAW regs do not apply to private caravans, they decided instead that it was a site safety rule............... and, of course, no, not at all about getting money for them via their sparky. So..........I did it myself and gave them a cert stating that it was done by a person qualified under sec 16 of EAW regs. It is amazing what a scam PAt testing can be........and how many people think that you have to be a sparky to do it!

I agree with Pikeman where there is an ignorance to what is required of a PAT person. However, I dont think that £1.45 per item is bad, time is money.

We paid £1.20 per item in January, based on 600 items. Your quote doesn't seem too unreasonable to me

We are paying £0.80 per item for approx 1800 items on a single site.
Seems reasonable. Have paid £1 to £1.20 per item in the past.

All way too cheap to use a competent person & meet in full the requirements in the IET documents, you should be doubling the highest per item cost above at least. You need to check with your insurance companies what they require first, oh, and, see what equipment needs inspection & testing and to what level. What are you going to do with kit connected to fused connection units? A very high percentage of PAT bods are not competent to open them up, an, an "EICR" under BS7671, could also exclude them.
