Dear all we operate street cleansing tasks wherby operatives use PCVs (pedestrian controlled vehicles) , however come the darker nights we are looking towards fitting some form of lights when the PCV is being pushed along in busy city areas. I have checked manufacturers guidance/suppliers but to no avail however any lighting would be a Add on. does anyone know of a minimum standard of illumination for such equipment when operating on the network? many thanks

Hi, I can't think of any h&s regs offhand, but since you're using these vehicles in public areas maybe it would be worth having a look at the Construction & Use Regs that apply to motor vehicles. I realise that the CU Regs probably don't apply directly - but they may still give you a heads-up as to what kind of lighting (side lights, head lights, etc) would be fitted to a road vehicle and how powerful they're expected to be. Just a thought :0)

Rather than lights consider reflective material, red for night as they do with a lot of highways works vehicles...
