Are their any L8 Guru's out there? Where would an organisation stand if they installed a misting system to an attraction which was walked through by the general public. The system is continuously moving and being filtered before becoming mist. Does it require a full blown Legionella Plan by trained specialists or could the risk assessment be conducted in house. Would it require a yearly inspection/shut down/clean, again by specialists or could this also be done in house. All ideas, comments much appreciated. Yours truly EVO

So, overweight, middle aged men who like a drink or 2 will walk through this aerosol. Doesnt sound good to me, thats before factoring in water storage, delivery, turnover, maintenance, cleaning, c&d etc

Definitely requires a Risk Assessment! Under general health and safety law, as an employer or person in control of a premises (eg a landlord), you have health and safety duties and need to take suitable precautions to prevent or control the risk of exposure to legionella. Details of the specific law that applies can be found in part 1 of Legionnaires’ disease: The control of legionella bacteria in water systems. Carrying out a risk assessment is your responsibility and will help you to establish any potential risks and implement measures to either eliminate or control risks. You may be competent to carry out the assessment yourself but, if not, you should ask someone with the necessary skills to conduct a risk assessment. This can be done by someone from within your own organisation or from someone outside, eg an external consultant.

Risk assess it then look at further controls. Are you using 'tap water'? and will it be constantly running from the tap. If so the chance of legionella forming will be low> Just remember to run the taps every now and then to stop water stagnating inside the system when not in use. Ensure that the water is at a temperature where legionella cannot form and test this regularly. If you are storing the water in a tank - Non closed system, then you'll need to really think it over. Not quite sure how your system will work as I'm more of a visual type of person. Some drawings would be good.
