We have an employee who informed his manager that he had a microdiscectomy for a prolapsed disc 13 years ago which may be the root cause of his back pain. However, it hasn’t been helped by all the time he is spending travelling in the car and working from two different offices as well as client sites. The employee has not been to the doctors as he feels there is nothing that can been done. Paul has been exercising regularly to strengthen his back and has spent £300 recently on physio appointments but he has had to cut down on these due to the cost. The employee has been travelling a lot as he is based in the London office and currently lives in Swindon. When he took the job initially he under estimated the strain of the commute. His line manager allows Paul to work from the Cheltenham office two days per week (as this is much closer to his home) and is often working from client sites which has greatly reduced the daily commute. The employee's children also live in Reading which again, has added to his travelling with working in London. Longer term he intends to move to Reading to be closer to his children which will also cut down on his commute to work as there is a direct train from Reading to London. The manager has informed me of this recently and asked if I can come on and carry out a DSE assessment on him. I feel that this is a special case and isn't you standard DSE assessment. Would anyone be able to recommend a ergonomics / Occ health specialist who would be able to provide their services to this particular case, preferably based based close to London ?

Posturite http://www.posturite.co.uk/ offer a service whereby they offer a workstation assessment and setup so you can meet Display Screen Equipment regulations and ensure high staff productivity. They have sites all over the UK. Have previously used the service and can recommend, if i remember the service offered was free under the proviso of buying some of the products recommneded.
