"From 1 July 2011 The British Standards Institute (BSi) introduced a new standard in First Aid Kit Content. The new kits are more comprehensive than the current HSE range. Originally HSE introduced the range in 1997 but since then, changes in first aid training protocols, increasing concerns with infection control and new product technology have meant that they are no longer ideal". Does anyone know if the above mentioned first aid kits are now recommended by the HSE (or indeed have been included within legislation) and thus superseded the old versions? - I can remember at the time 1 July 2011 that it was not - only advised etc. Rich

the risk assessment should be used as your primary guide as some of the kit reccomended via BSI is not suitable in some situations and oin other situations different/more kit is also required

Just to support Bob' s reply. HSE FAQ's reads "Employers may wish to refer to British Standard BS 8599 which provides further information on the contents of workplace first-aid kits. Whether using a first-aid kit complying with BS 8599 or an alternative kit, the contents should reflect the outcome of the first-aid needs assessment." "may wish" means 'optional but best checked out' in my interpretation of HSE speak
